Mind Maps and Mystic Alchemy Art



During the first ten years of my experimentation with creating art using meditation, drum and metronome journeying, astral travel, and various shamanic practices, I created these Mind Maps and Mystic Alchemy Art pieces.

The Mind Maps were distributed by mail art indie publishers like Mark Sonnenfeld's Marymark Press.

Prints of the art pieces were sold through SoCalArts, the Southern California Arts Collective.

  What Is Chautauqua? Chautauqua (named for Lake Chautauqua, where this historical education format was first started in 1874) is a unique way to present historical characters. A Chautauqua scholar typically spends 18 months to 2 years preparing a historical character. This includes research (first-hand documents if possible, scholarly research, site visits, interviews, etc.) They then write a 35- to 50-minute monologue (each hiring organization is different) to be presented to an audience. There is some debate about whether this is a lecture in costume or a theatrical performance, with most scholars somewhere in the middle. The Mothman '66 Escape Room: A Joey Madia Signature Escape Room Experience

Some things are just meant to be. In August of 2009, my wife and I decided to take a trip to Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where there was a museum dedicated in part to the Mothman Prophecies--a book by Fortean researcher John A. Keel, which had been adapted for the big screen, starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney, and Will Patton in 2002.  We loved the movie and had gotten the book on which it was based. When we bought 3 acres in a WV "holler" in 2007, one which we built a house for our family of five, my wife Tonya asked me if I wanted to go to the Mothman Museum, which was only two and a half hours away.
