Twelve Fiction Books about Pirates

The Dealings of Captain Sharkey and other Tales of Pirates, Arthur Conan Doyle

Captain Blood, Rafael Sabatini

The Sea Hawk, Rafael Sabatini

Sword of Tortuga, Captain Horatio Sinbad

I had the honor of sailing several times with Captain Horatio Sinbad on his hand-built brigantine The Meka II in Beaufort, North Carolina. I also worked with him for several years to put on the Beaufort Pirate Invasion.

Sinbad was the only modern sailor to carry a Letter of Marque, which was given to him by President Ronald Reagan.

Sinbad sailed to the seas beyond the sunset in early April 2025.

Cup of Gold, John Steinbeck

Captain in Calico, George MacDonald Fraser

The Pyrates, George MacDonald Fraser

The King of Pirates, Daniel DeFoe

General History of the Robberies and Murders of the Most Notorious Pirates, Captain Charles Johnson (a nom de plume; thought to be Daniel DeFoe but most likely Nathaniel Mist)

Treasure Island, Robert Louis Stevenson

Pirate Latitudes, Michael Crichton

Pirate Latitudes, Michael Crichton
